After its access-all-areas cameo on episode three of ‘A Very British Hotel Chain: Inside Best Western,’ this normally quiet corner of divine Doncaster is getting used to the limelight. One of just two Premier brand hotels in the Best Western family, our luxurious 4-star haven is indeed “luxury land”, as general manager Richard puts it.
And with an incredible 87% of over 1,400 TripAdvisor reviews scoring it Excellent or Very Good – it seems Richard’s sentiment is universally echoed by those who pass through.
So what are the secrets behind its success? We take a closer look at those review headlines and get to the bottom of what makes Mount Pleasant Hotel no stranger to the superlative…
They said: “Out of this world”
What specifically moved this suitably-impressed reviewer to say this about Mount Pleasant Hotel? Was it the stunning, award-winning gardens – with tranquil courtyards, fountains and idyllic bridge over a rippling stream? Maybe it was the unique collection of lavish beds, including a swish Rococo 4-poster, a truly rare glass bed or one-of-a kind swinging bed, as seen on TV?
Could it have been the legendary state-of-the-art spa facilities, the daring local menus, or customary warm welcome from the team? Turns out, it was just a combination of the lot…
They said: “Fantastic, as always”
Having been owned by the McIlroy family for three generations for over seven decades, it’s fair to say that Mount Pleasant Hotel prides itself on a deeply personal approach to service. It’s this consistency of experience that has created a legion of regular returners, each coming back time and again to enjoy that familiar touch of comfort.
One reviewer pointed out they “relaxed instantly just walking in!”, which says it all really.
They said: “The suite was spectacular”
Setting Mount Pleasant Hotel apart from the chasing pack is its glorious collection of 84 rooms – including 8 opulent, individually-themed Spa Suites. Here you’ll find four and five poster beds, or sleigh beds in the room, all with contemporary bathrooms. Features include a two-person air bath, Swedish saunas and even a glass bed.
Then of course, there’s ‘the Daddy.’ The fabled Caldaria Signature suite is the most prestigious room across the entire brand and, with its gently-swaying, 7ft suspended bed, traditional sauna, steam room and air-pool bath, it’s not difficult to see why.
They said: “1-night taste of luxury”
It’s safe to say that Mount Pleasant hotel welcomes its fair share of fleeting visitors, making their way through this rural corner of South Yorkshire for a taste of the high life. While some swing by on business, some for pampering pleasure, others stay the night ahead of onward travel from nearby Doncaster Sheffield Airport… or indeed, after dropping off some very important guests.
Yes, as seen on TV, our famous Christmas advert (the one with the donkeys!) was filmed right here in ‘Donny.’ Retrace the (hoof) steps of a very special guest, unwinding after the most celebrated journey ever made. Business guests will also have noticed the Best Western GB board meeting being held in the ideal, 18-delegate boardroom. Hey, if it’s good enough for us…
They said: “First-class food”
Chef Colin Robson-Wright and team have been serving up brekkies that leave you raring to go, and evening meals with the wow factor for years.
With varied menus to suit all tastes and dietary requirements (even donkeys), Mount Pleasant Hotel is renowned locally and further afield for some of the best food, and service, in Yorkshire. Between the Brasserie Artisan restaurant and Captain’s Bar & Lounge, guests are treated to seasonal menus with delicious dishes made from fresh local ingredients. At least one reviewer described their “juicy, perfectly cooked” steak as the best they’d ever had.
They said: “My son said it was better than Gleneagles”
High praise indeed from this golf enthusiast, clearly enamoured by Mount Pleasant Hotel’s stunning choice of nearby parkland courses – sharing 13,000 yards of fairway escape for those after a slice of putting paradise.
Both Bawtry and Styrrup Golf Clubs boast a driving range, putting green and pro shop facilities, on top of championship-standard 18-hole courses to die for. With trolley, club and buggy hire available at both, plus the option to take up tuition to fine-tune your swing, guests soon discover why it’s among the country’s very finest.
But don’t just take our word for it – come and see what the fuss is about for yourself…
